Question: Can I purchase an Entered Apprentice Ring now that I have passed my Entered Apprentice degree?
Answer: Members do not usually purchase a ring till they pass their Master Mason’s degree. Yes, it is possible to buy an Entered Apprentice Ring, but in most cases, it is not necessary. This is because, in the USA, those that have attained their Entered Apprentice degrees have a short period of time before they become a Master Mason. The rings purchased for the Entered Apprentice and the Fellowcraft degrees become useless then. So, traditionally, members do not bother to purchase them. But in countries like Australia, it could take as much as seven years to pass a Master Mason degree after passing the Entered Apprentice degree. There, the time-honored method is used, and it requires more proficiency. If you still want a EA or FC ring you can find it in our store here. Just use the filters to find them.
Question: Why is this guide useful?
Answer: This guide was written to let you know more about degree and how the Square and Compasses are displayed for each degree. You will learn about the symbols on the Master Mason’s ring. You will also learn that rings for the first two degrees are not needed so you won’t spend time and effort looking for one. The knowledge here will also save you from any embarrassment you may face when you ask your lodge members about rings for the first two degrees.
Question: Other lodge members wear rings. What kind of rings are those?
Answer: These rings are Master Mason rings or Masonic rings. These rings are only worn after you have passed the 3rd degree and become a Master Mason. A sample of a Master Mason ring is shown below. The ring can be purchased at our online store.
Question: Since I can’t use an Entered Apprentice ring, can I buy a Master Mason’s ring?
Answer: A Master Mason ring is an indication and an honor showing that you have passed the 3rd degree. It is a high honor to pass the 3rd degree. You can buy the Master Mason ring before passing your degree. But it is best that you fully know all that the ring stands for before you start wearing it.
Question: But, I want everyone to know that I have passed the Entered Apprentice Degree. Why can’t I buy a Master Mason’s ring and start to wear it?
Answer: In the US, it is possible to become a Master Mason within three to six months. But it takes about seven years to become a Master Mason in other countries. If you start to wear a Master Mason’s ring without becoming one, other members might feel that you are taking what is not yours without earning the privileges to do so. It is possible that you will be called aside and told how inappropriate this is. So, you can purchase a Master Mason’s ring at our online store now, but it won’t be advisable to wear it before you pass the 3rd degree.
The Degree Symbols
There are three Freemasonry degree or levels. They are Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft and Master Mason. Each degree has its symbol with a unique display of the square and compass.
Entered Apprentice
The symbol of the Entered Apprentice degree shows both legs of the compass lying under the square. This degree stands for youth. It means that the Entered Apprentice does not yet know how he can circumscribe his passions on the square of virtue. The Entered Apprentice degree is a pledge of your word.
Fellowcraft
The Fellowcraft degree has a symbol showing the left leg of the compass lying on top of the square. The right leg of the compass is lying under the square. This degree stands for manhood. The degree indicates that the Fellowcraft is halfway towards mastering control over himself, his desires and his passions. The Fellowcraft degree is an obligation of your spirit.
Master Mason
The symbol of the Master Mason Degree shows both legs of the compass on top of the square. The Master Mason degree stands for age. It is a symbol that indicates maturity. It shows that the Master Mason is matured and has control over his life. The square of virtue indicates that he can square his actions. The symbolic compass indicates that he can circumscribe his desires and passions. The symbol as a whole serves as a reminder that geometry was key to the Mason’s trade and so God should be center of a Mason’s life. The Master Mason degree is a seal of authenticity as a man of your word with the dedication of your spirit towards the brotherhood of man and the Freemasonry fraternity.

I’ve pass my Entered Appeendership level and are a 3rd degree Mason, if I wear my ring,I will be stopped and ask “where did I get that ring”? Isn’t there a passage I should recite?

I am applying the trowel, once a man has been initiated he is a Mason and is entitled to wear a Masonic ring should he choose. There is nothing in the code, standard manual or etiquette guide prohibiting him from doing so.

John Sexton, you have asked your question in a way that very strongly suggests that you are not telling the truth. The Ohio lodge will certify the falsity (or truth) of it on request by you or any freemason or lodge anywhere in the world.
