 Masonic Funeral Committee

The Masonic Funeral Committee comprises of three men who are appointed by the Worshipful Master of the Lodge. They are in charge of the following:

Location of Jewels and Aprons: The Masonic Funeral Committee must be aware of the location of all Masonic jewels and Masonic Funeral aprons.

Maintain Jewels and Aprons in good condition: The Masonic Funeral Committee must take care to know the condition of all Masonic jewels and aprons and ensure that they are in good condition. They must ensure that all jewels and aprons are complete, and none is lost or dirty. They need to inform the Brothers of all lost Funeral aprons, so arrangements can be made to replace them.

Funeral Rituals: The Masonic Funeral Committee maintains an updated list of members that can perform Masonic Funeral ritual services. The list can be updated by contacting the Grand Lodge for a list of members that are capable of this.

Obituary check: They keep a watchful eye on obituary columns to watch out for any member of the Lodge who may have died.

Member Directory: The Masonic Funeral Committee maintains an updated directory of all members of the Masonic Lodge.

Death of a Brother

When a Lodge member dies, the Masonic Funeral Committee contact the family of the dead Brother and ask the family if the member wanted to have a Masonic Funeral performed by the Brethren.

Preparation for a Masonic Funeral

The following are done if a Masonic Funeral is to be conducted:

1). First, they tell the wife or family of the deceased Brother to bring the white leather apron of the Brother. This white leather apron is the one that was given to him when he became a Master Mason.

2). They ask the family if they will need pallbearers and ask for the time, date and name of the funeral home where the Masonic Funeral Service will be performed.

3) They ask the family of the deceased Brother for anything that they can do for them.

When a Brother dies, the Lodge Secretary sends a sympathy card to the family of the deceased and handle all correspondence between the Masonic Lodge and the family of the deceased member.
